KANJI CLOCK

ESP8266 based NTP clock with kanji digits.

The Kanji Clock showing 9:24AM.

Displays the current time using kanji number icons on 8x8 LED matrices. Based on a ESP8266 HUZZAH and LED matrices from Adafruit. Housed in a custom built wood and glass enclosure.

HARDWARE

Here is a list of the main hardware components used.

The overall parts are shown below.
(1) Glass vase, (2) and (3) Wooden end blocks, (4) LED holder, (5) Wooden base, (6) Fasteners for end blocks, (7) HUZZAH mounting fasteners, (8) HUZZAH ESP8266 breakout board.

A Fritzing file is included in the repo which shows the wiring connections.

The LEDs are tied to wooden sticks held together by round wooden end pieces as shown below. The LED holder assembly was spray painted black to minimize glare.

The LED holder is inserted into the glass vase. Power and I2C cables are routed through the wooden end blocks.

All parts are brought together and secured using fasteners.
